SONICrider is the modular part of The Phonons “live noisy ambient”… The Phonons do a live performance at Dutch Modular Fest 2019.
SONICrider did a solo rehearsal using the DMF set up and pushed the record button… These recordings are the “DMF test drive” results.

This trilogy is all about the Eurorack module BENJOLIN. The module is a DIY project by Rob Hordijk sold by a few modular brands. Since soldering is not my best skill I got the module from Jan de Block a Belgium musician (and owner of the Modular404 label).

For those who love “experimental ambient” and low frequencies :-).
Approach: a constant low sound with some modulation tries to keep other uplifting signals unheard. Slowly the gravity lost control and a more open atmosphere takes over escaping the gravity.

The Phonons is a collaboration between Siem Nozza & Jurgen Winkel (SONICrider) creating live ambient with a noisy and experimental root.
As a preparation for an upcoming performance Siem and Jurgen met in the SONICriderSTUDIO where they talked a bit, fired up their instruments and pushed the record button…. The result a 45 minutes “when noise meets ambiance” journey called “Pulsar” was a great starting point for the live performance “Falling Upwards”.
