This “Jazzular Element 1” is the first release in a series of “Jazzular Elements” combining Modular and Jazz elements creating unique improvisations played in one go.

“Jazzular Element 1” set up is built around the Benjolin module by Rob Hordijk. The Benjolin is a module that combines 2 VCO’s, a filter and a Rungler in one, which interact internal or using voltage control. The Benjolin has a main out plus dedicated pulse and triangle outputs for each VCO.

The set up in details:
– Benjolin out (mixing console channel 5)
– Benjolin triangel out VCO 2 into a 3 channel Low Pass Filter* into a ACL dual delay (mixing console channel 7)
– Benjolin pulse out VCO 1 Into the clock in of the NerdSeq sequencer.
– Nerdseq channel one triggers a TipTop Audio snare module (mixing console channel 2)
– Nerdseq channel seven triggers drum samples (mostly hihat/symbals like sounds) into a 3 channel Low Pass Filter* (mixing console channel 3)
– Nerdseq channel eight triggers a bass sound recorded from a modular bass module into a 3 channel Low Pass Filter* (mixing console channel 4)
– A microphone adding some human hums and words (mixing console channel 2)
– A Soma Ether ised to scan once in a while the set up adding electronic noise, crackle and clicks (mixing console channel 6)
– A Patch Block creating a drone/filtered sound for an extra layer in some parts of the arrangement (mixing console channel 8)
– As a liveeffect a Eventide H9 is used adjusting the dry/wet amount throughout the live performance/recording.

* Each channel of the 3 channel Low Pass Filter is modulates by a Q-LFO by ACL: the outputs of this LFO are shifted 90 degrees. The speed is adjusted manual throughout the arrangement. The fourth output of the Q-LFO controls the feedback setting of the ACL dual delay.

The overal tempo is controlled by Benjolins VCO 1.

Where this “Jazzular Elements Recordings” started as an idea inspired when visiting several Jazz performances, recording this first element was an exiting …. ride.

Enjoy this SONICride….r
